Method

How these answers are worked out.

Every guide ranks all iPhones from iPhone 11 to iPhone Duo on a single figure that Apple publishes for every model, so the ranking compares like with like. The answer at the top is the best iPhone Apple sells new today; the full table underneath also includes older models you might find refurbished or second-hand.

  • Size is the area of the front of the phone, height × width in millimetres, because that is what decides how a phone sits in your hand and pocket.
  • Screen is the diagonal in inches as Apple measures it; for iPhone Duo we count the inner folding display.
  • Weight and thickness are Apple's figures for the bare phone, without a case.
  • Battery life uses Apple's video playback rating, the one battery test Apple publishes for every model.
  • Price is Apple's US starting price for the smallest storage option.
